Best Dab Rigs

KandyPens Oura

KandyPens-Oura-Review

The KandyPens Oura is a portable dab-rig constructed with zinc alloy and sports a design that has curves and edges that make the entire device slightly reminiscent of an art piece. Featuring four preset temperature levels (capping off at 800°F). Its kit also comes with the option to choose between ceramic or quartz atomizers, further allowing you to have better control of the already terrific overall vapor quality. Ergonomic and well designed, the Oura is a premium vape that performs at par with its price.

Vista Mini 2

XVape Vista mini 2 icon

The Vista Mini 2 definitely lives up to its namesake- it's one of the smallest and most portable dab rigs on the market to date. It features a replaceable atomizer, four pre-set temperature levels, and wireless charging. It may not be the most powerful device, but the vapor quality is definitely far above average. Its straightforward user interface is appealing to beginners who are looking for their first dab rig but find others too complex or expensive.

Dr. Dabber Boost EVO

DrDabber Evo Boost Extract Vaporizer Eclipse Black Review

The Boost EVO is another release from the famed brand: Dr. Dabber. It also features the brand's signature ergonomic deep center curve and LED lights. All of the EVO's components are magnetically secured, making cleaning and assembly a breeze. One of its most notable performance features is the integrated temperature sensor that ensures that the atomizer does not overheat. The EVO is a simple, yet well-performing dab rig, and it might just be a new crowd favorite from Dr. Dabber.

What are e-Nails / Dab Rigs?

G Pen vs Portable Dab RigsE-nail, short for electronic nail, is a device that lets consumers enjoy their dabs and other THC/CBD solid extracts- without having to literally "play with fire" at each turn. On a traditional dab rig, the nail is heated with a blowtorch , while E-nails use electricity instead to heat the nail evenly and vaporize the material. E-nails also take a lot of the guesswork out of the process with precise temperature controls- making for a much safer dab experience.

This provided precision allows users to truly savor those delicious terpenes in their material and maximize the effects of certain cannabinoids. Both of which would've been lost if the dab was burnt instead of vaporized.

Dab Rig vs. Nail-only Devices

An E-Nail is a battery-powered nail that can then be attached to a traditional rig. These are more suited for users who already have rigs, but prefer the precise temperatures of an electronic device (as opposed to a blowtorch).

Dab-rig eliminates the need for a separate rig, by having one already built into the device. All that's left to do is to simply fill the glass bubbler of the device with water and load the atomizer with your material.

KandyPens Session

Kandypens Session Extract Vaporizer Review

The Session is smart and uniquely designed to be an all-in-one extract vaporizer or what's better known as a hybrid vape. This device can be used both as an eNail with existing Rigs or as a "standalone" wax vape. It features a neutral ceramic coil, three pre-set temperatures, and a simple straightforward user interface. The vapor produced ranges from mild to dense but is quite flavor-forward. Although, the best reason to buy the Session would most likely be its duality.

Best E-Nails

G-Pen Connect

G Pen Connect

The G-Pen Connect is a relatively small e-Nail that connects to any 14mm glass water pipe. Sleekly designed and conveniently modular- each of the Connect's parts attaches magnetically, including the magnetic lid which replaces the traditional carb cap. It also features a ceramic bowl, which means this device is better suited for users who prioritize flavor over vapor density.

Linx Apollo

Linx Apollo Extract Vaporizer Review

The Apollo is a well-made, sturdy wax vaporizer/ eNail hybrid that is the best of both worlds. The included glass bubbler is uniquely and artfully designed although not the most discreet. The device features smart heating technology, several pre-set heat modes, and Linx's signature quartz atomizer, this device allows you to really taste and experience your material – without wasting it.

Things to consider when buying an e-Nail

Ease Of Use

If you're new to vaping concentrates or solid extracts, an E-nail probably shouldn't be at the top of your purchase list. The intense vapor they produce might be too much for beginner vapers to handle. This is on top of the fact that they're more complicated to use in comparison to vape pens. E-nails consist of several components that require assembly.

While it doesn't exactly take having to read through a whole manual to get a grasp on how to use portable dab rigs or E-nail. If you're a beginner – it's best to start with a vape pen.

Nail Types

E-nails come with the following coil types: titanium, quartz, and ceramic. Some E-nail kits will come with just one nail type, others may have two, while more premium devices come with all three. Being able to choose between coils allows users to have more control since different coils yield different results.

Ceramic – It takes a bit of time for a ceramic coil to come to temperature, but it does retain heat well. Meaning that you won't have to constantly be firing the button between hits. It's also a neutral material that helps keep flavor pure.

Quartz – Quartz is also a neutral material that produces flavor-forward vapor. It heats just as slowly as a ceramic coil but lacks overall heat retention.

Titanium – Just like any metal, titanium is quick to heat and stays hot for much longer than any of the two previous coils. However, the vapor produced seems to lack in quality and leaves a slight metallic aftertaste.

Portability

Puffco Peak vs Dr Dabber Switch ComparisonDue to their size, need for water in the bubbler, and the number of components that come with any E-nail and portable dab rig- they aren't relatively portable devices. But that doesn't mean they're simple "home-use" devices, most kits come with a carrying case that protects your e-nail and other dab equipment- making it easy to take with you from place to place.

KandyPens Oura

The Oura sits well balanced between beautiful design and near-perfect performance. All of which are hard to come by in the vaporizer space- but seem to be a KandyPens signature. KandyPens have consistently been crafting high-performance devices that are intuitive and make it to our best lists at each release.

One of the foundational features of portable dab rigs is that they heat up in near-record time and the KandyPens Oura definitely does. It takes five seconds for the Oura to heat to its lower temperatures, and about twenty seconds to heat to its peak at 800°F.  The bell-shaped bubbler sits well in the mouth and does a great job of keeping draw resistance fairly low, which means each inhale is smooth and effortless. The resulting vapor regardless of which of the two atomizers you choose to use is excellent, never warm, harsh, or overly dense. If you're a flavor-fiend, I'd highly recommend sticking to the mid-tier temperatures and using the quartz coil.

Vista Mini 2

Created by California-based brand- XVape, the Vista Mini 2 has a great value to performance ratio and is especially appealing to anyone who's looking for a first dab rig or something that's on the more portable side of the spectrum. At only 8 inches in height and a narrow body, this could easily be stashed in a bag and taken out for the day. It's also solidly built and all its parts are secured well, eliminating the fear of anything falling off in transit.

The battery can be charged wirelessly, which means you can place it on a charging pad in-between sessions or leave it to charge throughout the night- that way, the Vista Mini 2 is always ready to use. It also features a replaceable atomizer and four pre-set temperatures that are controlled by a single button interface and are indicated by LED lights (White – 536°F, Green – 608°F, Blue – 662°F, Red – 752°F.). This device is far from complex and while it isn't exactly a powerhouse, it does the job and does it fairly well. Definitely quite a bargain at $15

Dr. Dabber Boost EVO

DrDabber Evo Boost Extract Vaporizer Eclipse Black Review

Dr. Dabber does it again- proving that they're a brand to beat by releasing the Dr. Dabber EVO. A simple, straightforward dab rig with a signature design and a hefty number of practical features under the hood. The EVO is anything but lightweight and is crafted for advanced and heavy users who are looking for premium build quality and longevity from their device.

It may not have the bells and whistles that come with most 2021 releases, but it definitely doesn't really need them. The vapor quality of the EVO speaks for itself. It has a single-button interface responsible for toggling six preset temperatures (ranging from 550-750°F) and heats up to its highest temperature in roughly 15 seconds. A key feature of the EVO is its built-in temperature sensor embedded in the quartz dish- keeping the temperature consistent throughout your sessions and preventing your material from getting burned and ruining the flavor.

KandyPens Session

Kandypens Session Extract Vaporizer Review

The KandyPens Session is one of the few devices that function as both an eNail (to be used with existing rigs) and as a standalone wax vaporizer. While it might be the most minimally designed device on this list, it's far from that in performance. As an eNail, the Session delivers great vapor quality at every turn – regardless of which of its three pre-set temperatures you choose. The resulting vapor is flavorful, smooth, mildly warm, clean (especially when water is involved), and flavorful. As a wax pen, it delivers near-similar vapor quality thanks to the airpath that runs vertically through the height of the device. It also features a "session" setting that turns on automatic heating for a minute, which makes it an on-demand vaporizer.

The Session's battery lasts roughly 2-3 days of average use, which is definitely long, especially when you consider that it only takes an hour and a half to fully charge via its USB-C port. Its kit comes with everything you'll need–minus the water pipe and dabs. Luckily, it's compatible with most 14 mm female connections, which is one of the most common sizes. Overall, its dual function, vapor quality, and build are a near steal at its $149 price tag.

G-Pen Connect

G Pen Connect

The G-Pen Connect is a device that brings each user back to the basics of any e-Nail's functions – the Connect isn't loud and overly feature-heavy, instead, it's discreet and straightforward. It feels as though the Connect isn't out to distract the user from the experience, but rather elevate it with precision and the production of a much better tasting vapor. With a single firing button (that's really the entire side face of the battery) and three voltage settings; Blue: 3.1V/ Green: 3.6V/Red: 4.1V. Users can more accurately customize their vaping experience in a way that they couldn't with a standard blowtorch.

Design-wise, the G-Pen connect looks clean, minimal, and consists of only three main components: the Connect battery, the atomizer, and the glass water pipe adapter. The atomizer and battery are seamlessly assembled with magnets, while the glass-on-glass adapter water pipe adapter fits snugly over the base of the atomizer.

Linx Apollo

Linx Apollo Extract Vaporizer Review

Linx Vapor takes a leap forward with the launch of The Apollo- the brand's first hybrid vape- functioning both as an eNail attachment and as a wax vaporizer.  A versatile first if you're looking to get a device that can do both. It's a great product with a simple interface, easy and intuitive to use, and comes with a fully equipped kit. Performance-wise, the Apollo is filled with features such as smart heating, pre-set temperature modes, and an inlaid coil within the quartz atomizer. The vapor quality on the Apollo is smooth, cool, and rich in flavor.

This device also seems like it's the most boldly designed one in Linx's line- most of their products so far have been mostly sleek and feature a stainless steel finish. But the Apollo comes in a sleek, black finish and resembles a pillar. Atop the pillar is an artfully designed borosilicate glass bubbler that also features an outer spiral of the same glass for aesthetics. This bubbler combined with the Apollo's uniquely crafted percolator, allows less air to enter the glass and allows for clouds that are bigger than what you would get with standard portables.
